Remember, I’m not the expert. But I decided to bring this question to the table among trusted peers, and these are our answers.  By trusted peers, I mean the ones in my head. *Hey* Characters have opinions too.

  •  The sire bond and how one vampire makes another.
    • The sire bond can be a real thing, and it can also be broken, especially if there is a traumatic episode. As far as making one another, well, yeah, that happens, like all the time.
  • They are hotter than hell.
    • Yes and no. There are some unsavory types. And beauty can be on the outside and they could be ugly on the inside right? I know some of those types of vampires.
  • Strong?
    • Of course, they are. They can lift quadruple their weight if not more right?
  • Offspring?
    • Well, there are a couple of possibilities. In Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman version) Dracula was trying his best to have offspring, but it didn’t work out so well. Edward and Bella managed to make little Esme, and in some stories, they can most definitely produce offspring.
  • Do they ever wish for a true and final death?
    • Maybe, are there some suicidal vamps roaming around out there? Probably. Or they go insane, right?
  • They are immortal.
    • I think this is also up for debate. As I know some real life vampires that want to suck the life from my very existence. Unless of course they are immortal and I never knew. (Gees, lets hope not.)

Praise for Gone to Dust, Book 2:

“Lucky fans of the super-talented Hart don’t have to wait long for the second installment of her new romantic suspense series Gravediggers, as the installments are being released back to back. In the first book, Hart set up her world where five men, declared dead to the world at large, work for a super-secret anti-terrorism force. Hart’s new heroine is a very talented romance writer who takes no crap from anyone — even secret commandos. Miller and Elias are both funny and sexy together, which helps make this book nonstop entertainment, with plenty of witty bantering and thrilling adventure!”—RT 4 ½ star TOP PICK Review

“Modern Cliterature…Enjoy [this] lusty [passage] adapted from summer’s raciest reads…”Cosmopolitan, July 2017

Praise for The Darkest Corner, Book 1:

“Gritty, deadly, and peppered with unexpected humor, this supersexy, adrenaline-charged story will keep readers on edge and breathless until the last page.”—Library Journal

“Liliana Hart sets up a fascinating and intriguing premise of individual men forced into taking extreme steps. Her heroine’s reluctant immersion into this world allows readers to discover the treachery and danger looming all around…a thrilling series!”—RT

“A cool blend of entertaining antics and suspenseful moments, with a slightly morbid sense of humor thrown in for good measure. (Our heroine was a mortician, after all!) I had a blast getting to know this cast of characters and can’t wait to see what exciting things Liliana Hart has in store for us next.”—Harlequin Junkie

 About the book:

New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Liliana Hart’s second book in her sexy, suspenseful Gravediggers series, GONE TO DUST, features an elite group of mysterious men who might be dead to the world, but are also tasked with saving it—and no one can ever know.

The Gravediggers aren’t exactly what they seem. They’re the most elite of the world’s fighting forces—and all they have in common is that they’ve been betrayed by the countries they’ve died for. Because they are dead. To their country, their military, and their families. Sometimes the dead do rise…

Miller Darling is one of the most popular romance novelists of her time. Not bad for a woman who doesn’t believe in romance. She’s as logical as they come, and she doesn’t believe in happily-ever-afters. What she does believe in is family, so when her brother disappears, she doesn’t think twice about packing her bag and her laptop and heading out to find him.

Elias Cole lived and breathed the live of a Navy SEAL. Now he’s “dead” and his hero’s honor tarnished. The only thing keeping him sane are the men who are like him—The Gravediggers—and the woman who makes his head spin. He’s never met anyone like Miller Darling. Her smart mouth and quick wit keep him on his toes, and damned if he doesn’t find that appealing.

When Miller receives a package from the brother who abandoned her asking for help, it’s clear she’s in over her head with the mess he’s gotten himself into. She needs a professional, and Elias is just the man for the job. Only her brother is a former SEAL—the man who left his team to die—and Elias is more interested in vengeance than saving his life.

QUICKIE REVIEW

I personally enjoyed the characters in the book, Miller and Elias’ banter was hilarious. Their chemistry scorching, and I couldn’t put the book down! It was sexy and packed with adventure. I’ve not had a chance to read the first book, and I don’t think I missed out on anything, except for an amazing story. (I’ve remedied that, by buying the first book in the series). But you can definitely follow along and get the gist as you get a bit of backstory from how the gravediggers were born. I’m invested in the series and can’t wait to see who the others fall for! Bravo! Excellent read!

Who would win in a fight? A Werepanther or Werewolf?

Who would win in a fight? A Werepanther or Werewolf?

Werepanther

Attributes to consider

  • Agility
  • Size
  • Jungle Terrain *Air is thicker in the jungle, due to humidity*
  • Salvia is toxic
  • Four legs vs. Bipedal
  • Classes of Panther (Panthera)
    • Tigrer
    • Lion
    • Jaguar
    • Leopard
    • Snow Leopard

I could go a lot deeper in their Pantera class, but for the sake of time, I won’t do that.

vs.

Werewolf

Attributes to consider

  • Strength
  • Size
  • Woodland Terrain
  • Salvia is toxic
  • Claws are toxic
  • Four legs vs. Bipedal
  • Classes of Wolf (Canidae)
    • Gray Wolf
    • Coyote
    • African Golden Wolf
    • Ethiopian Wolf
    • Jackal
    • Black Beard Jackal
  • Alpha
  • Beta
  • Omega

Again, this is just the wolf class is broken down. There are tons I’m leaving out, but for the sake of shifting, I’m going to go with this class of wolf.

It hopefully has you thinking who would win in a fight right? Let’s revisit in two weeks. But for now, pick a side, and let’s hope it’s the winning side! Those who comment on the blog will be entered to win either a Panther or Wolf, depending on who our victor is!

You could win a Panther or a Wolf! Pick a side and see who wins!

#MeetCute Interview: Tawdra Kandle 50 Frogs

Boy meets girl. It’s the way romances usually begin . . . and while we all love a happy ending, it’s the #MeetCute that wins our hearts.
How did you two meet?
The #MeetCute Books each have a unique answer to that query. Some might make you swoon, others might make you giggle . . . and some may make you blush.
Twelve authors. Twelve stand-alone contemporary romance novels. Twelve stories that will make your heart beat a little faster.
Because it’s all about the #MeetCute.
For each #MeetCute Book, we’ll share a couples interview in the style of the “When Harry Met Sally” clips. (Check them out here!)
In FIFTY FROGS, Vivian kisses some frogs . . . but there’s only one guy who captures her heart.
Vivian: The first time we met, it was in the middle of a street, and I was forced out of the car against my will.
Charlie: Let’s just be clear here: it wasn’t me doing the forcing.
Vivian (laughing): No, that’s true. It wasn’t. That was my mom and Aunt Gail.
Charlie: Remind me to thank them for that.
Vivian: Anyway . . . (mock glares at Charlie), when I saw you the first time, I thought you were cute.
Charlie: Tell the truth. You thought I was smoking hot, standing there, holding my rake. And when the turtle got involved, I was damn near irresistible.
Vivian: Right. Only, I did resist you.
Charlie: For a long time. While you were busy doing other things. <clears throat> It took a while and some help before you finally gave into my charms.
Vivian: Okay, so what did you think when you first saw me?
Charlie: I thought you were incredible, beautiful and full of passion. I also thought you had a nice ass.
Vivian: Are you talking about the day we met in the street? That wasn’t my best day. I can’t believe that’s what your first impression was. Also, did you even see my ass that day?
Charlie: I mean the first day I saw you. And yeah, checking out your ass is always a top priority for me. Always was . . . always will be.
Vivian: Awww, you say the sweetest things!
Charlie: I only ever speak the truth, babe. That’s a forever thing. Just like us.

Fifty Frogs releases on June 27th. You can preorder it here today!

Vivian is sick of dating. Sick of the way guys treat her, sick of living and crying by when and if they call . . . she’s just done.

When her aunt reminds her that a girl has to kiss a lot of frogs before she finds her prince–Aunt Gail says that number is fifty–Vivian decides she’s taking control of her dating life: she’s going to go on a series of first dates only, and each one must end in a kiss. She begins chronicling each date–the good, the bad and the downright unbelievable–with a plan to turn the stories into an in-depth magazine series about the realities of dating in the twenty-first century.

Everything’s going along according to plan until Vivian hits a bump in her road with Frog Number Five, who doesn’t seem to understand his role in this deal. And despite Vivian’s determination to make it all the way to the big five-oh, when fate keeps throwing this same man across her path, she begins to wonder if maybe it’s time to ditch the plan . . . and kiss just one more frog.

5 Myths about the Alpha Male

5 Myths about the Alpha Male

I was online a couple of weeks back doing some research on Alpha Males and found there are some misconceptions. I’m no expert, but I’d like to think I know a little about them.  I married one. First I want to point out that there’s a book called. The Book of Alpha It’s called to action states… Be Bold. Take Control of Your Life. If you read this book this is what you’ll learn.

Alpha vs. Beta Males

Why you are who you are

Alpha Male Body Language

Become Fearless

Leadership Skills

Quality of Life

via GIPHY

Let’s first jump into some characteristics of the Alpha male.

Definition:  Is the first letter of the Greek Alphabet. In the system of Greek numerical, it has a value of 1. According to the Oxford Dictionary, it’s the dominant male in a particular group.

If you’re not first you’re last” ~Ricky Bobby’s Daddy

I did some digging, and first looked up some Alpha Male traits, and since I found the book The Book of Alpha, I figured I’d pull from their list.

via GIPHY

  1. Confident
  2. Have Intangibles (Mentally Tough)
  3. Competitive
  4. Have presence
  5. Strong Body Language
  6. Walk like the shit <— ( I don’t entirely get this one? ) Maybe they have swagger? *Yup that’s what it means*
  7. Position Themselves
  8. Dominant
  9. Take Chances
  10. Alpha Males Get the Girl
  11. Vocal and Loud (I’m tagging this one as a Myth because some Alpha males (at least the ones I’ve met) Are more observant than vocal and loud.
  12. Strong Eye Contact
  13. Aren’t Afraid to get physical (tagging this one too) I don’t think fear has anything to do with it. Again, knowing when the battle is necessary. *Again, I’m not the expert.
  14. Calm under Pressure
  15.  Know how to dress
  16. Strong
  17. Non-Reactive
  18. Do not need external validation
  19. Not afraid to stand out
  20. Saying No (tagging this one too as Myth)
  21. Do not try to be everyone’s friend
  22. Perseverance

I want to revisit this list in another post! And I will… But this list came from tobealpha.com tobealpha.com/alpha-male-characteristics/

Now let’s get into the Myths of the Alpha Male, and I found a couple above. But you don’t have to take my word for it. These are just my thoughts.

5 Myths about the Alpha Male *According to Tigris*

  • Vocal and Loud: I don’t think this is true, some are the strong silent type. They observe, get the lay of the situation before being vocal and loud.
  • Attractive (Physically) We all want that buff dude, with the washboard abs, and the sparkling eyes and long lashes, but let’s face it, being an Alpha Male is a state of mind I think. The mind is a beautiful place and is just as attractive. So although the Alpha in question isn’t eye candy, he can still exude power in other areas and still be just as influential.
  • Assholes: Some can be, but it’s not a pre-requisite to in order to get your A Card.
  • Are secretly shifters and vampires who are waiting to fulfill our every fantasy. I know, we want this. Crave it even, but unless you know something I don’t know, then we can only read about them in our favorite books.
  • Saying No. Okay, I tagged this one, because what does saying no have to do with being Alpha? I don’t get it. In the article, the writer points out that Alpha males have the power to say no and that betas are afraid of the consequences of saying no. It also says that having said power to say no, is the most important thing. I disagree and I’m calling MYTH on this. Because everyone has the power to say no, Alpha’s included and as far as consequences, I think an Alpha would consider the consequences be it good or bad. Cause he’s an Alpha and would use his head first to get to the correct outcome? (Am I overreaching?) If I am, call me out on it!

She has published more than twenty books, including the bestselling A Tiger’s Claim, book one in her fan favorite Ashwood Falls series. Her novels feature compassionate yet strong alpha heroes who know how to please their women and her leading ladies are each strong in their own way. No matter what obstacle she throws at them, they come out better in the end.

While writing was initially a way escape from real world drama, Lia now makes her living creating worlds filled with magic, mystery, romance, and adventure so that others can leave real life behind for a few hours at a time.

Lia’s favorite things are spending time with family, traveling, reading, writing, chocolate, coffee, nature and hanging out with her kitties. Power is her greatest weakness, but love could be her salvation.

Dana Hutson is about to make one of the toughest decisions of her life: walking away from her twin and her Pack. But the anger of her late mate’s betrayal burns deep, and her guilt threatens to push her over the edge. Combined with the magic she was born with intensifying to a lethal level, she has no choice but to leave Whiskey Hollow in search of her inner peace. But what she finds could be more than she bargained for.

Cooper Reed will do anything to keep his sister and adopted daughter safe from the demented rogue Alpha of the Bloodrose Creek Pack. That includes killing anyone who threatens his family and going on the run. He is willing to do whatever it takes. He isn’t prepared to find his mate in the midst of the chaos.

When even more secrets and dangers come to light, Dana and Cooper must band together to stop the rogue and his minions before all is lost. But will their bond be enough to harness the power needed to defeat such a foe?

Pain arched across her skull, piercing every nerve ending. Dana growled, holding her head in her hands. With deep, calming breaths, she gathered the built-up magic that ran in her veins, the power that grew stronger every day.

Dreams of destruction and loss had interrupted her sleep over the last month. With only a few hours of rest a day, she feared the control she tried desperately to maintain would slip. She could kill her brother, then the Pack.

Ross did this to us. Her wolf’s words cut through the hammering ache in her skull.

Ross wasn’t their true mate. The mating had been a political arrangement between his Pack and hers, to merge two small groups of wolves together. The first few years had been good, and she’d actually believed she could grow to love him. She’d trusted him to be the strong Alpha that her father was.

However, when the Alpha power transferred to Ross from her father, everything changed. As Ross’s mate, the Pack magic mixed with the power Dana been born with. The power the witch’s Coven, her great-aunt’s Coven, believed was a gift from the goddess, Diana.

Ross became drunk on the magic and wanted more. He went from a compassionate wolf to a power-hungry, abusive mate. He distorted her Pack, and broke her in ways she wasn’t sure could be fixed.

She’d learned to hide the witch’s power from him, containing it deep within her soul. But that power had only grown, and now, it wanted out.

“You don’t have to go.”

Dana squeezed her eyes shut and willed away the ache in her head and her chest. Her twin brother’s soft plea hurt on so many levels. In all of their hundred years of life, they’d never been separated. Never needed to be. They were linked through a familial bond, as well as psychically.

Since Darin had taken over Whiskey Hollow as the Pack Alpha, his power was now hers. And her agony was his. She couldn’t stay, knowing that she caused him pain and may one day hurt him physically. “Dare, we both know I can’t stay. Our link is too strong, and I’m not sure how much longer I can hold my wolf back from challenging you. She grows more aggressive as the poison inside me grows. A healthy Pack can’t survive with two Alphas.”

“You are not poisoned. I took Ross’s Alpha power when I killed him.” Darin stepped closer, his hand extended to her.

Involuntarily, Dana growled and jerked back. “Don’t touch me!”

He let out a soft sigh and lowered his hand. Disappointment and sadness flowed along the link that bound them as twins. Dana hugged her waist. She wanted nothing more than to embrace her brother and believe that everything would be okay. But she couldn’t.

“Where will you go?”

Dana shrugged. “Not sure. North, maybe.”

Darin shoved his hands into his pockets. “I can call a few Packs and ask if you can stay in their territory.”

She sighed and shook her head. “I’m not going to put any other Pack in jeopardy. I know where the neutral zones are, and I plan to stay within them.”

The truth was, she had a place about twenty miles west of Whiskey Hollow. However, she didn’t want to tell her brother that was where she planned to go. Although, he’d find her anyway. And he would, just to keep tabs on her.

She needed the time to get control of her wolf and the growing power within her.

“Take an enforcer with you.”

Dana whirled on her twin and snarled. “I am not taking anyone with me. I’m not helpless, and I don’t need a fucking babysitter.”

His wolf flashed in his blue eyes, and he curled his upper lip. “I know you don’t need a babysitter, but shit happens.”

She strode to him, placed a hand on the center of his chest, and felt the beating of his heart through the thin cotton T-shirt he wore. Instantly, she calmed. That was Darin’s gift as a charmed one—a shifter with magic in their bloodline. “The time has come where I need to search for my own Pack.”

There, she’d said it. Up until then, she’d let her brother believe that her leaving was temporary, that she’d return. However, she didn’t plan on coming back. “Look. You may be fine with lying to yourself, but I have to face reality. The Alpha blood runs thick in my veins, just as it does in yours. Being mated to Ross only added a shit ton of fuel to the fire.”

She stepped back and turned away from him. The unspoken words lingered between them. Her guilt for mating the former Alpha had further distorted the Pack and left her bitter. Especially after she’d watched the bastard kill her parents. When Darin had killed the asshole and claimed the Pack, Dana was no longer responsible for protecting it against her mate.

Yet, the hurt, the anger, and the power she’d gained from Ross had damaged something inside her. Had broken her on a level she hadn’t thought possible. She feared she’d go rogue, mindless and bloodthirsty.

Alphas of Summer: Interview with Cyriaque Ravenueaux

Alphas of Summer: Interview with Cyriaque Ravenueaux

via GIPHY

Today was a day where I couldn’t get words onto paper. I decided to switch it up and do some type of writing. That’s when I had the brilliant, or maybe not so brilliant idea to interview my character Cyriaque (Cyr) Ravenueax.  To give you a bit of backstory, Cyr is a recluse who lives in Cajun country. He also happens to be a chef.

He has his reasons, and I’ll think you’ll find with his interview why he’s different. I was lucky that he even agreed to do this interview. Becuase as far as he’s concerned, he thinks enough of his drama was told in, In the Cover of Night (Shameless Plug)

I, of course, had to go to him.  He was busy playing hide-n-seek inside my mind. (Yes I openly admit that I speak to my characters, and yes they do respond)

via GIPHY

I arrived on time, Cyr, however did not.

“You’re late.”

“Your point?”

“I have a schedule to keep. Words to write.”

“Not my problem. You wanted the interview, I agreed. I showed up. That’s half the battle right there.”

Insert Eyeroll ——-> Here:

via GIPHY

Me: What’s your favorite restaurant?”

Cyr: Really? That’s one of your questions? Next.

Me: I’m being serious and you should play nice and cooperate. We want readers to like you, not hate you for being such a douche bag.

Cyr grumps but answers my question.

Cyr: My favorite restaurant would be Cyrius Eats of course.

It’s the restaurant that he owns of course. I’m not going to push for further information. As I said, I am pressed for time.

Me: What’s your spirit animal?

I can tell he’s getting pissed, and yeah, I threw that one to be funny. Maybe it isn’t as funny as I thought.

Cyr: Your readers do know I’m a shifter right? A panther.

Me: Of course they know. Now tell me, what’s your story?”

This time I get an eye roll.

Cyr: I’m a panther shifter. My family is originally from somewhere that I can’t disclose to you. That’s secret information. I have no siblings. A best friend name Alaric that I sometimes want to murder. I’ve recently agreed to mentor a human student. I’m rethinking that, but it’s too late now. The girl bitched until I finally gave in. And although you think you’ve created me from the dark recesses of your mind, I’ve always existed.

via GIPHY

Me: Tell me a joke.

His arms fold across his chest and he leans back in his chair. I’m about to move to my next question, but then he answers.

Cyr:  What exactly is MATH?

Me: What?

Cyr: Mental Abuse To Humans

Me: What would you do if you woke up and found an elephant in your backyard?

Cyr: Metaphorically speaking or literally?

Me: Literally.

Cyr: You’re a strange human. But, I’ll bite. Literally. I’d probably eat it. Becuase I’m only ever in my backyard when I’ve shifted into my panther form.

Me: Have you ever played a sport? If so, which one and what position.

Cyr: Soccer, half back.

Me: Why’d you chose to become a chef?

Cyr: I like to eat. Might as well eat good food.

Me: Why do you think readers will love your story? What won’t they like?

Cyr: I’m a loveable kind of guy. I can be charming and sweet. I know my way around a woman’s body, so there’s that. And well, if they don’t like me, it’s because you made them not like me.

Me: Well, thanks for that interesting interview.

Cyr doesn’t acknowledge me. He stands from his chair and makes his way around me without even a goodbye. I’d like to say my feelings were hurt. But there not. There’s another person who’s been trying to get some me time. And so, it’s time for me to write!

What are your top Three Romance Re-Reads

What are your top Three Romance Re-Reads

We all have our favorite re-reads we like to go back to. And like me, you’ve there are probably more than three. Here are my top three at the moment. I actually read this back to back one weekend, while chilling in my room trying to decide what to wear. I was supposed to be planning my weekend, and instead, I ended up in bed reading… All damn day. YAY! Talk about perfect days. That was one of them.

Larissa is my go-to for all things PNR, but she tends to kick me off down this path of more more more. I try and to mix it up a bit. Karen Marie Moning, what can I say? We’re talking about ADAM BLACK! He’s just all that and a bag of chips. Then there is Immortals after Dark. Malcolm Sloane is my top character out of the series next to Lothaire.

There you have it folks my top three reads. Feel free to pick them up for the first time, or enjoy them again as I did!

Music Muse Monday: Brika Demons

This is part of Dire Cravings playlist. I have a lot of Brika on there. She’s just soulful and I love the sound of her voice along with the music selections.  Hope you enjoy the song!

Song: Demons

Artist: Brika

Album: Voice Memos

Composer: Briana Alexa Martinez & Julio Reyes Copello

Year: 2014: Track 11

And Momma always said
No one’s really gonna care
For you in the
Outside world
They’re big beasts
And full of lies
You better keep to yourself
And stay real quiet
In the outside world
But I can’t believe you
And I can’t see
Who don’t want to be loved
And what went wrong in your life?
You say you just want to go and be loved
And Momma always said
No one’s really gonna care
For you in the
Outside world
There are demons
And they’ll spit you out
Better wear a mask
And stay indoors
In the outside world
But I can’t believe you
And I can’t see
Who don’t want to be loved
And what went wrong in your life?
You say you just want to go and be loved
Be loved, loved, loved, loved

Random Acts of Writing

Random Acts of Writing

There is so much to say about writing randomly. I do it all the time. I have tons, and I mean tons of notebooks, sticky-notes, and well, paper. Some might even say I’m a bit crazy with all the things I write down. But today started off as any other day. I woke up, (I’m on vacation so score there) and I decided to sit down at my computer and get my writing on. *What you don’t know is that it’s really Tuesday night, and not Wednesday morning* which is when this post will go live. But that’s a different issue altogether right? Right.

I was talking about random acts of writing. Well, I’m taking a marketing class right now, and one of the things it talks about is planning a content schedule that will crush your goals. Do I want to crush my goals? Hells yeah! I have this template and it says publish twice, two weeks apart to get started, and then of course, build momentum from there. If you haven’t figured it out yet, this post is a random act of writing, and if you read this. KUDOS to you! I’m testing out my mad marketing skills and I’m wondering how many people have read this post? Laughed, or thought, “geesh, I just wasted x amount of time reading gobbly gook.

Thanks for reading my gobbly gook!

ABOUT THE BENEFICIARY

Our Mission

Every woman deserves quality breast health care. Every woman deserves The Rose.
The Rose reduces deaths from breast cancer by providing access to screening, diagnostics, and treatment services to any woman regardless of her ability to pay.The Rose addresses any barrier that might keep a woman from caring for her own needs.  Studies show women often put personal needs on hold while tending to the needs of others. Many women cite cost and lack of access as reasons they delay preventive services. Yet, early detection mammography screenings are the most powerful weapons in the fight against breast cancer – which is 98% curable when detected early. For the woman who puts everyone else ahead of her own care, The Rose encourages her to take care of Me2.
Every service offered by The Rose is available to the uninsured through one of many sponsorship programs. In fact the whole purpose of the Empower Her® Sponsorship Program is to ensure any woman has access to breast cancer screening, diagnosis and care. From the initial screening mammogram, through diagnostic procedures such as ultrasound and biopsies as well as access to treatment — all are part of the “quality breast health care” offered at The Rose.
Same day diagnosis, special programs for young women, on-site physicians dedicated to breast health care, advanced digital technology — all reflect The Rose’s emphasis on quality and excellence. The Rose collaborates with the best medical organizations in Texas and reach women from Matagorda to Shelby Counties.
Our service area has no boundaries,
our caring has no limits.
FAQs
Q: Who is at risk for breast cancer?
A: All women are at risk for breast cancer. The majority of women diagnosed with breast cancer have no other known risk factors.
Q: What are the risk factors that put a woman at higher risk for breast cancer?
A: A personal history of breast or ovarian cancer, a relative who had breast cancer before menopause or in both breasts, a personal history of breast biopsy showing atypical hyperplasia or carcinoma in situ, being young at the time of your first period, starting menopause later, never being pregnant or having your first child after age 30 and having the mutated breast cancer gene BRCA1 or BRCA2
Q: What steps can I take?

A: Age 20 -39: Conduct monthly breast self-examinations and have a clinical breast examination every year. Women under age 40 with a family history of breast cancer and other concerns about their personal risk should consult a trained medical professional about risk assessment and when to begin screening mammography.

Age 40 and older: Conduct monthly breast self-examinations, have a clinical breast examination every year, and an annual mammogram.
Q: When should I do a breast self-examination?
A: The best time to do a breast self-examination is the same time each month. For menstruating women, the self-exam should be performed after the menstrual period has ended when the breasts are less tender.
Q: What is a clinical breast exam (CBE)?
A: A clinical breast exam is performed by a trained medical professional, includes visual examination and palpation (feeling) of the entire breast and underarm area, and is performed in both sitting and lying down positions. Women age 40 and older should have both a clinical breast examination and mammogram each year.

A Game of Hearts

Dumped by her boyfriend of three years just a few days before their anniversary and planned trip to an island paradise, a place where fantasies come true– a resort called Indulgences–Zoraida Lemes is forced to do a little soul searching, and what she discovers is not what she expected. Especially when her best friend from childhood, Mateo Vargas, expresses an interest in being more than just friends.

Now everything is up in the air. Including her friendship with Mateo.

One almost steamy night sets the two on a journey that Zoraida may or may not be ready for, but Mateo hopes she is as the two indulge their fantasy with a game of hearts.

When I first started working on this project. The only thing  I was sure of, was that Mateo and Zori were going to be friends first, before they became lovers. I talked to a good friend of mine who helped me pick out there names, and then I plotted the entire book. From beginning to end. Two friends who grew up next to each other, both wanting the same things, but at different times. When it comes time for one to stand up and make their move, well, you can only imagine what happens.

Normally when I write, I don’t have pictures to help me push through. My characters tell me what they look like, but Zori and Mateo insisted I had inspiration. It could be because this was my first official Latin couple. So I searched, I found my male, and my female, well lets just say she resembled Christina Milan, but I had to settle for a stand in, with some extra added imagination. Not saying that the picture was bad, just all wrong as far as attitude to match the body.

Zori                                                                                                                                       Mateo

Once I had my images, it became all about the two of them, dancing around one another before finally colliding. I really enjoyed writing their story, and I hope you do to! Remember, Escape to Paradise is only .99 cents but for a limited time! Below is the play list I listened to as I wrote their story.

Friday Fearless Female: Guest Author Anne Conley

Friday Fearless Female: Guest Author Anne Conley

The best protection any woman can have … is courage—Elizabeth Cady Stanton

Elizabeth Cady Stanton was a contemporary of Susan B. Anthony, and although less well-known, she still has a lot to say to modern women.

This quote resonates with me, especially because I am scared of everything.  I’m not an adrenaline junkie, storms terrify me, and if I could wrap my car in bubble wrap for all forays out of the house, I’d be much happier.

However, that just won’t do.

Life is about taking chances, especially in my chosen career—writing and publishing.  While I can happily live my life never getting on another airplane or motorcycle, I can’t not write.

And that requires courage of a different sort.

Good writing involves putting the characters in situations where they will grow. Finding some hidden truth inside themselves.  Not only that, but it’s necessary to take risks with plot and conflict, and that can be scary as an author.  The heroine is already in trouble?  Let’s throw something else in the mix to make it worse!  Depending on the trouble and the wrenches we throw into the mix, the characters we have birthed will suffer much more at our hands.  As much as we laugh and joke about that, it’s still guilt-inducing for me.  And readers get angry.  That’s a risk we have to take.

The entire act of indie publishing is a brave thing, as well.  I’ve already been rejected by the publishing houses who are supposed to know everything, right?  When I first began this journey, I felt like I was going over their head, so to speak, and publishing anyway, after they’d essentially told me I wasn’t worth it.  That’s ballsy too.

It took courage.  Courage I didn’t have.

And throughout this process, I have learned so much about myself.  I’ve learned I can truly do anything I set my mind to, something I assumed my parents just told me to make me feel better.  I’ve learned I can support my family through creative efforts.  I’ve learned I CAN touch people’s lives and make them better.  I’ve learned how to push through my failures.

And these things have made me even stronger.  And in that strength, I am protected by my courage to take risks.  Risks with my characters, the situations they find themselves in, and the other characters who help them discover their own inner strength.

So I project my insecurities on my characters in different ways—either by making them fraidy cats, like myself, or the fearless woman I wish I was.

And it’s cathartic in a way I can’t even explain.  But through this journey of writing and exploring different characters’ faults and foibles and helping them grow, I have found myself.

And I am a strong woman.

And so are you.  Just find your courage, and you’ll be protected.

Music Musings

Music Musings

Today was an eye opener for me. I made some decisions and cemented things down.

Music soothes me. Clears my muddy brain and helps me to see things for what they really are.

I had this idea in my head that came to life as I listened to Ludovico Einaudi. I discovered him last night. And I never land on music, I was in the mood for some piano, and he was the answer to my wishes.

I gravitate towards pieces that touch me in multiple ways. I was brought to tears today as I listened to Night. It’s haunting and awe inspiring. I even plotted an entire story. *project* I love when that happens.

So I’ve been listening to him all day, loud and uncaring of who can hear it. Some would call me selfish, but I know my neighbors didn’t mind. None of them were home. LOL

It’s late now, the sound has been turned way down. I have my headphones on and I’m still reeling. I got lots done today, edits, and some pleasure reading. All under his sweet sounds. I feel better, and I know that my decisions made today were good ones. Today was a defining moment in time for me, and yes, it was his music.

That’s how powerful he is. I just wanted to share with everyone how amazing I think he is. My tastes are very eclectic as most know. But have you ever listened to an artist, and EVERY DAMN SONG was brilliant? I’ve only had the pleasure of a few artists doing that for me, and I’m happy to add Ludovico to the list!  I want to share him with you all, and I’d love to know your thoughts if you’re willing to share. If it touches you deep in a place that was a bit cloudy, and opens an expressive moment for you, then I call you my musicmate! Because that is what his music does for me. It reaches deep and tugs on my dark places exposing them to the light.

It’s a little after 4 a.m on a Wednesday…

I was going to lay in bed till my true alarm went off at 5am. But I couldn’t. My mind wouldn’t shut down and for some reason, I picked up my phone and started scrolling through FB Posts. Technology. That’s what it does to some of us. Keeps are heads bent and our eyes down. Not saying its a bad thing, but I’m not saying that its a good thing either. I’m saying it can be distracting. My entire theme for 2017, and yes I have a theme, was, balance with a smile. It’s been anything but. But I’m not going to complain. Okay, maybe a little. *Rant time* I want there to be more hours in the day. *Rant over* There’s a train passing by right now, and I’m thinking, is that why I’m up. I didn’t used to be the type of person to wake up at 4am every morning no matter what. So maybe it’s the trains fault.  Or maybe I’m up because I was worried about the sudden rash that appeared on my face last night (<—That’s probably what it really is).

But here I am awake, and happy to report the mysterious face rash has gone away. I am officially awake, and writing a blog post. Something I told myself I need to do more often. And not just about book stuff, but stuff happening around me. I want to keep this post positive, because there are just too many depressing or negative as fuck shit going on these days. I don’t have to post about it, there’s enough to go around to last a lifetime as far as I’m concerned.

This post won’t have any cute pictures either, because then that will take me forever to find, and I just want to sit and chill. While I blog of course.

What’s on the docket for everyone today? Me? I had my breakfast drink which included (I hope) all the essential vitamins, minerals, fiber, calcium, and protein. But who really knows what’s in that bottle of Carnation Breakfast Essentials? (Chocolate of course) LOL I’ll start getting ready for the day job, as an HR Advisor, slash payroll and benefits girl. Drive in Houston traffic, avoiding the toll roads, and jamming to my latest playlist, properly titled: Do the damn thang!

I’ll chat with my co-workers for a moment, and print out payroll reports and go through those, as its payday on Friday, plus we all got that annual increase, so I have to make sure that’s right. And check to make sure that to reorg is complete as well. (As we love to do a company reorg EVERY FREAKING SINGLE YEAR) <—Can you tell I love doing this. LOL I’ll laugh, I’ll whine, I’ll complain about all the stuff I can’t change at work, and then I’ll keep it pushing. Although, all of sales, and marketing are out in Paris going to what they call their yearly to-do to become ONE with the market while we admins and support staff stay back and throw a FUN In the SUN INSIDE office party. We’re going to wear *appropriate* beach attire, hook up the Xbox Live in the huge conference room on the big screen, eat burgers, and just well, goof off for a few hours.

What’s that’s all said and done, I’ll mosey on over back to my cubicle, make a list of things I plan to do… Do more HR Advisor work (by the way I have no clue what that even is anymore) and then I’ll leave promptly at 3 for my drive home. Check on my dad, who has congestive heart failure, but will probably live till his one-hundred and twenty, thanks to the nifty Lvad (left ventricle assist device). After all that is said and done (if he doesn’t have me running errands) I’ll take a me break. Sometimes that can last thirty minutes, or I wake up four hours later from a nap, my body forced me to have. Make dinner, or procrastinate and not make dinner, and tell the Mr. Sorry it’s PBJ night, to which he glares at me and explains he’s a man not a child. (I relent and cook anyway, sometimes). After all that is done, I say I’m going to work out and sometimes do, but as of late, usually don’t. I chat on FB, look for marketing tips (currently taking a course) and then I make notes on what I’m working on and try to write. There are good and bad days, but I’m finding out that the bad days aren’t really bad at all. They are more days I don’t focus my creativity. (At least that’s what I’m calling it.) Do you see why I need more hours in a day?

It’s almost time to get ready for work…. This post went on longer than I intended. But if you’re still here for the end. HEY YOU! HOW YOU DOIN! LOL All in all my life is hectic, filled with lost hours of time, and still I get to wake up and go to sleep smiling. That’s the point right? After all is said and done. Waking up and going to bed with a smile on your face. (Unless you’re not feeling well) I woke up thinking it’s 4am, and I have a rash on my face. Went to the bathroom to check it out and was relieved to see the bumps were gone! YAY! I got to read an amazing post this morning on FB in a group I’m a part of, and then I sat here and typed this out. Only to remember, dang it, what am I going to wear to the fun in the sun inside party today at the office?

See you later folks, best reason for this post? Don’t have one… But I feel good now that I did. CIAO Beautiful people!
