Excerpt One

Vaggo smiled down at the squirming infant in his arms. Genetics was a tricky thing, but he’d finally gotten it right. The infant was perfect in every way. It hadn’t mattered what the final outcome produced, gender wise, as long as everything inside worked. What he’d gotten was a perfect little miracle, with ice-blue eyes that were surrounded by a golden circle, and a crown of silky black hair. Her skin, a beautiful honey-almond, shimmered under the fluorescent lights. He’d yet to give the infant a name; and didn’t know if he should. A flawless face stared up at him in recognition. Beneath her skin, he could see flecks of gold and blue veins, intertwined as they pulsed with life. An oddity he was sure, but out of her oddness, was perfection. He’d copied the genetic code from old text books that he’d gathered from the science section at the Hall of Records. The books pre-dated the first Uni-war. The pages had been unmarred by time and soiled fingers, still legible and clear. How she ended up looking unlike her kind, was an anomaly. She was growing at an accelerated rate and it concerned him. What if she died due to her rapidly aging body and he wasn’t able to harness her genetic material in time for proper research? What if she fell ill? Vaggo stared down at the restless baby and decided, then and there, that he wouldn’t allow for either of those possibilities to occur. She was his and he would keep her alive, always. The baby needed a name, and only one would do. Genesis.

Excerpt two

A very tall male was heading straight towards her. Everything about him was dangerous. His smile, his fathomless blue eyes, even his hair looked intimidating, pulled back into a braid that wrapped several times around his neck with the end resting mid-way down his chest. Two single braids hung at the sides of his face with black and red beads resting at the end. As he got closer, his smile grew wider. He sat next to her. Right next to her. Everyone else on the bench was a good six feet away. Not him. And even though she tried not to be effected by him, she was. Every female was, Gen realized. If the sighs of longing that bloomed through the auditorium were any indication. “Don’t mind me, lovely, I’m always late to these things.” He was sitting so close, Genesis could feel his hot breath brush her cheek. “Aren’t you quite the looker,” he leaned forward and inspected her closely. His pupils widened only a moment as his nostrils flared. “A tasty bouquet, I am more than willing to try.” He whispered seductively. Gen shivered and tried to scoot closer to the end of the bench. He only followed. Intimately pressing his thigh against hers. The heat from his skin seared her flesh, she wasn’t sure if it was because she was jumpy, or if he had that effect on her.

Old earth has been deemed unsuitable for life, New Earth is home. With the Uni-Wars over, races have joined together in order to sustain their way of life. All life was considered worth saving, but only one race failed to submit. Humans.

Now extinct, humans are a thing of the past. The people of New Earth won’t acknowledge their hand in their eradication, but they have benefited from it. Dr. Vaggo Blackmore has found the answer, he’s restored his races way of life- sustenance through farming. The one thing that will give them back their long lives….. Blood, human blood.

Biologically engineered in a lab, Genesis Blackmore has always been different. Her father has told her it’s due to her enhancements, the Federated Council sees her as a genetic mutation; and her fellow peers see her as the shiny new toy. Gen has had better days.

Everyone on New Earth has milky white skin, platinum blonde hair, and electric blue eyes. It’s the norm. Genesis’ glossy, black hair, ice blue eyes ringed by gold, would have almost made her socially acceptable- if it wasn’t for her golden skin and blue, gold veins. In a sea of milky white she alone is the dark anomaly. All Pars get their life’s nourishment through blood plasma.

All Pars find their match through the tasting. Gen can do neither, forbidden by her father to do so. She can neither taste, nor be tasted. Something that’s never bothered her until now.
