The Consequence: By Karin Tabke

Karin Tabke’s The Consequence

The Consequences (The Chronicles of Katrina #4)

THE CONSEQUENCE, the explosive conclusion to The Chronicles of Katrina, will leave you breathless and panting for more.

They have been dared and doubled-dared, and they’ve flirted with the truth, but as Kat and Simon tumble deeper into their sexual odyssey, their love for one another blooms magnificent and fierce. Soon their love is threatened but Kat’s certain nothing can tear them apart. Then duty calls and Simon’s betrayal is revealed.

Will Kat run again or will she finally stand and fight for her man?

What can I say! Tabke does it again in this final installment of Kat and Simon! The story picks up right where we left off  in The Truth. Simon’s crazy ass sister-in-law, slash ex-bed buddy is in the kitchen with breakfast! Kat was a better woman than I ever would have been, because had that been me, well let’s just say, Knock out Kings, would have wanted to feature me on Best Knock Outs in 2014!

Yes, that’s how into the story I was! I felt what Kat felt, and I was like, “girl don’t walk away, don’t do it! Stand your ground and be all up in that crazy broads face! But Kats character handled it well, she even gave Simon an ultimatum. He didn’t like it of course but in the end it all works out for the best.  We get to find out a little more about the crazy chick Amanda, and although I would have liked to see the two woman go at it, I was okay that they didn’t. But man, my spidey senses were on fire! I just kept say, “that girl is going down!”

Sadly it doesn’t happen the way I envisioned, but again its okay. There was enough drama to last a life time in The Consequence and we learned a few more things about Simon and the mysterious death of his brother Mark. This book has it all! Suspense, hot sex, drama, and OMG! MORE HOT COPS! I don’t want to give out too many spoilers here, but let me just say we haven’t seen the last of the HOT MEN OF THE BAY AREA! Tabke has promised us this and I am sooooo happy!

Did I mention that the book has some hawt sex? If I didn’t let me say it one more time… HOT S.E.X! Every woman needs a Simon in her life!

Everything ties together nicely in this last installment of this series. My only regret is I would have like to have seen like a flash forward into Kat and Simon’s future. I wanted to know what their children’s names were. What kind of wedding did they have. Did any more women come out of the closet? You know those types of things.  But Karin has assured her fans that we have not seen the last of this dynamic power couple. I’m looking forward to checking in on them, and meeting some of Bay Area’s finest boys in blue!

Simon as always saves the day! Kat finds out that she can see herself with Simon in a forever ever  kind of way and well Evan gets whats coming to him! THE BASTARD! This is what I love about Karin’s characters. They are so real and tangible you can’t help but get sucked into their story.

Be sure to pick up your copy of Karin Tabke’s The Consequence, because Simon says so!

Take This Regret

Genre : Contemporary Romance
Rating: 5 Stars

There are some mistakes we make that we will regret for the rest of our lives.  For Christian, it was the day he betrayed Elizabeth.

Christian Davison has a plan for his life.  He is determined to become an attorney and to one day take his place as partner in his father’s law firm.  Nothing will stand in his way, not even Elizabeth Ayers and their unborn child.

After Christian cuts her from his life, Elizabeth spends the next five years struggling to provide for her daughter and willing to sacrifice anything to give her child a safe, comfortable life.

For five years, Christian has regretted the day he walked away from his family and will do anything to win them back just as Elizabeth will do anything to protect her daughter from the certain heartache she believes Christian will bring upon them.

When Christian wrestles his way into their lives, Elizabeth is faced with asking herself if it is possible to forgive someone when they’ve committed the unforgivable and if it is possible to find a love after it has been buried in years of hate.  Or are there some wounds that go so deep they can never heal?

They say everyone deserves a second chance

First thing I noticed is that this book needs a “tissues needed” warning. Take This Regret, from the first to last, is full of pain, regrets, anger, angst, and …love. And it is wonderful.
Christian Davison and Elizabeth Ayers are a couple of college students in love with big dreams of finishing college, going to law school, getting high-paying jobs, and marrying. Then Elizabeth gets pregnant. She tells Christian, who tells her it’s ok, they can just get rid of it. This shocks and angers Elizabeth, who is against it. Christian throws the ultimatum of “It’s the baby or me,” at her. Elizabeth walks out. This sets up years of pain and resentment.
And regrets. When Christian stumbles upon a dark-haired, blue-eyed little girl who looks like him, he is thrown back into the feelings of love for Elizabeth and how much he has felt bad for what has happened between them. He hasn’t begun to search but the girl spurs it on. Will Elizabeth hate him?
A.L.Jackson has created a very vivid tug on the heart strings that grabs you from the very first and keeps you reading to see what comes next until the end. I read this in one sitting and I cried through the entire book. It was that good!
This book was given to me for a reading/review by the author.

Two hours later, Christian sat at his desk studying for his politics midterm, all the while listening intently for the sound of footsteps outside his door he felt certain he would hear. He trained his attention on the heavy textbook in front of him, trying to ignore the growing anxiety he felt each time he picked up his cell phone to check if he’d missed any messages.
None came.
It was well after midnight when he crawled into bed, convinced she just needed some time to realize he was right. He had to be right. He wouldn’t allow himself to think otherwise, so every time that wave of guilt came, he pushed it aside.
He envisioned her awake, just as he was, tossing uncomfortably in her small bed that rested in the far corner of her studio apartment and slowly coming to terms with what she needed to do.
But when he dragged his unrested body from his bed the next morning, his phone was still devoid of messages.
He had been cruel—he knew it. He could only hope he hadn’t pushed her too far, but that she would somehow understand he was just trying to protect their future.
Christian ate a bowl of cold cereal and then forced himself into the steam of his shower, desperate to find anything to chase away his fatigue. He found his head in a cloud, both from lack of sleep and from the scenarios running through his mind, ones including a life without Elizabeth.
What if she never came back?
Could he really give her up?
As he rubbed the soapy washcloth over his body, he tried to picture an existence without her. A life void of the perfect pitch of her voice, the way it rang out when she laughed. A life in which he didn’t touch the softness of her skin or have the right to pull her body against his. A life without a child crying out from the next room as he tried unsuccessfully to study for the bar.
Groaning, he shook his head and forced it all away, telling himself it would not come to that.
He was certain when he saw her in class today, she would take her normal seat beside him in the lecture hall, lean in, and whisper in his ear that he was right.
But when her seat remained vacant, his unease grew, gnawing at his stomach. The moment the professor dismissed class, Christian raced from the room and to the café where Elizabeth and he studied every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. He frantically scanned the room, finding several mildly familiar faces but not the one he wanted to see.
By the time he reached her apartment complex, he was panting, both from exertion from the mile he had run and the constriction fear had placed on his heart. He pounded on the door, giving her no time to answer before he yelled, “Elizabeth!” There was no sound from the other side, no rustling of curtains or faint shuffling of feet. Even then, he wasn’t satisfied. Fumbling with his keys, he found his spare and pushed it into the lock.
The door opened to the quietness, the small studio comfortably cluttered as always. The only thing that seemed amiss was the blankets from her normally neat bed were strewn on the floor. Christian crossed the space to the only separate room. The door to the bathroom rested ajar, that room as empty as the first.
Christian pressed his back against the wall and took a deep breath. He wasn’t prepared for this. He’d never thought it would go this far.
Reluctantly, he forced himself out of the apartment, shutting and locking the door behind him before he left, hating the voice inside his head that kept telling him this was for the best.

Author Bio
A.L. Jackson first found a love for writing during her days as a young mother and college student.  She filled the journals she carried with short stories and poems used as an emotional outlet for the difficulties and joys she found in day-to-day life.
Years later, she shared a short story she’d been working on with her two closest friends and, with their encouragement, this story became her first full length novel. A.L. now spends her days writing in Southern Arizona where she lives with her husband and three beautiful children. Her favorite pastime is spending time with the ones she loves.

Heather Winchester leads a charming life. With good friends, a beautiful flat in one of the most amazing cities in the world, and a promising future once she finishes her Ph.D, she is finally pursuing her own dreams instead of catering to everyone else’s…except she doesn’t remember any of it.
Malcolm Fraser has returned to his Highland village to forget his failings as a professional bodyguard. Believing he could just lose himself in the mundane activities of running his bed & breakfast, he finds a woman’s lifeless body by the loch instead….
Captivated by Heather as she regains her memory, Malcolm is thrown into the line of duty. As danger comes knocking on their doors, will he be strong enough to love her and keep her safe?

This was a fast paced read and I really enjoyed getting to know the characters. Heather is a very strong willed person. She is genuine and caring but is a bit vulnerable after her accident. She is found on the shore barely alive by Malcolm Fraser.
Malcolm is on leave from his job and doesn’t want to help protect Heather but something about her makes him want to do just that.
With Malcolm’s help, Heather slowly regains her memory and starts to put the pieces together of her accident. The man behind the attempt on her life is not who she expected but she realizes she is lucky to have survived the attempts that were taken on her life. Through these ordeals, Heather realizes she has fallen for Malcolm, but can Malcolm love her and protect her at the same time. Malcolm struggles with his feelings for Heather throughout the story. He believes he can not love her and protect her at the same time. He tries hard not to fall for Heather but in the end he realizes he can love her and because of that he can protect her.

This is a tale of vampirism, madness, obsession and devil worship as Rose Baines, only survivor of her family’s carnage, tells her story. Fragile, damaged by the tragedy, fate sends her to a desolate house on the haunted moors where demons dwell. The house and the moors have hideous secrets, yet there is love too; deep, abiding, eternal, but it comes with a price, her soul.
5 Stars

Rose Baines comes home to find her family, two sisters, a brother, and her mother, all slaughtered by her father. Everyone had thought her father was mad, crazed by all the bad things that he did in his life, the sin he did to his family, his wife, and to Rose.

Poor Rose cracks under the sight of her family’s carnage and is taken to Bethlehem, the hospital known as Bedlam, because she cannot stop screaming. Dr. Bannion, the psychiatrist, takes her to Marsh Lunatic Asylum to try to get her well. As she gets well, she is found by Mrs. Darton, a rich woman with two children and a husband who lives in a big house on Blackstone Moor. She gets Dr. Bannion to allow Rose to become the governess for her children and they move her to the big house on the edge of the moor. In the house, things get very strange and Rose finds herself wondering if she is crazy or if things are not as they are being presented.

Carole Gill has crafted a very good Victorian Gothic story for her first novel. Scenes are dark and brooding, her characters are ones that seem to have stepped out of a very strange Dickensian tale and lend themselves to leading the reader further and further down the road to the bloody climax. The twist and turns thrown in along the way just give enough confusion to make the story even stranger.

I loved House on Blackstone Moor. I have not read a well crafted gothic tale such as this in so many years and it was such a pleasure to do so now. I could not put it down! I know it’s a good book when I finally look up at the end and its 4 a.m. and I’m not asleep because I couldn’t stop reading. And this is a first novel. She’s working on the sequel, Unholy Testament and I cannot wait to get my hands on it.
